An Elementliast has Wards... Ward vs. Harm ... extra armor against physical and fire damage. You just have stand in the ward.
Necromancers have Well of Blood and Well of Power.
Warriors have Shouts.
Monks have Aegis.
Rangers have Spirits.
Not sure about Mesmers... they're special.
Anyway, five out of the six professions of AoE type skills that effect your allies. Maybe not in the same way, which would make it redundant. Each profession cannot be a Jack of All Trades. That's where true teamwork comes in, working with the skills from each profession to compliment and strengthen your group, each in their own way.

Mesmers can use e-denial to fight off hard hitting dmg dealers and protect the monks. for instance if the group is taking dmg from a fire ele they shut him down and he can stay there trying to kill you with his super staring powers lol and his wand.

The thing I don't like about monks is they are almost essential to a group unless you have a really well organized team with self heals. How many other classes are necessary in a group?

Ritualists will be interchangable with monks in factions.

You would think that, But from what ive seen during the pvp weekend (and im not claming ive seen it all) they're not as effective as monks at healing.

I disagree, the team work seems fine to me, afterall it takes more than one to start an argument.
I agree, teamwork seems to lack sometimes.

Every single character contributes to the group situation in any organised group, end of story. Expecially in PvP, what most people don't realise is that your offensive and defensive characters are tied. If warriors don't apply pressure or hold aggro (depending on what you're doing) you're going to lose because the opposing team can do whatever they like and roll over your monks. If your casters aren't positioning themselves correctly or aren't shutting down or doing their job, you're going to die.
I call that teamwork, because you're working together to win. Anyone who doesn't will ensure that the team fails.
It seems that you're confusing "teamwork" with "give characters defensive skills so everyone can keep everyone else alive." Currently, every character can contribute to the team by doing their job. A good offense helps your monks so much it's not funny, even with no direct "protection skills." Through correct positioning, team tactics and individual tactics, the amount of work the monks have to do is lessened so much.
It's quite possibly the most important thing in Guild Wars. There's plenty of it to go around.
